With moderate temperatures ranging from low 50’s on Tuesday, to the 70’s on
Friday, and skies mostly clear, fishing is going very well. Wave heights are
decreasing from 3 ft. down to 1 ft. as the week progresses providing for good sight
Description of the Inshore waters:
Created more than 4000 years ago the Chandeleur Islands have been reduced from
75 miles down to 11 miles and are still being reduced due to erosion. Located 35
miles south of Gulfport, the islands form a natural barrier against tropical storms.
With miles of grass flats and vegetated interiors, the islands provide a pristine
environment for hundreds of species.
Redfish, Sheepshead, Bonita, Black Drum, Tripletail, Jack Crevelle, Spanish
Mackerel, Bluefish, and Flounder, Speckled trout, King Mackerel, Cobia, Pompano,
Bluefish, Ladyfish, White Trout, Shark, and Tarpon
The fishing season is year-round.
There are several species of fish that migrate along the islands that are great
for fly fishers – cobia, spanish mackerel and pompano will be in the area. White
Trout, redfish and Tripletail are also caught in the Spring.
On the Gulf side of the Islands you should find King Mackerel, Spanish Mackerel,
Pompano, and Jack Crevelle are species normally caught during the summer.
The Autumn season is great for Black Drum, Redfish, Sheepshead, Speckled Trout,
Spanish Mackerel, Amberjack, and Shark.
Both the inland and Gulf side of the islands provide action during the Winter months.
Fishing for Black Drum, Redfish, Bluefish, Sheepshead, Speckled Trout, and
Flounder is good during the cold months of the year.
