Description of the Lake: Fishing at Amistad Reservior can vary with success, but
when the fishing is good, it's very good! Bass are the species that most people will
have sucess getting into, but the lake has a wide variety of fish. Many of these fish can
be found in both high numbers and quality. In addition to bass, catfish, crappie, sunfish
and striped bass can be found. Amistad Reservoir is located on the southwest border
of Texas, near Del Rio. If you are active duty, retired military, civilians that work or live
on Laughlin AFB, or a 100% disabled veteran, Southwinds Marina offers boat rentals
and services at your convenience for fishing. Always check water levels before you
plan a trip to Amistad, as they vary greatly, but finding it when the levels are good is
worth the time! There is over 500 miles of shoreline on the US side of the lake and a
boat ramp at Rough Canyon (check water, levels may affect launch options)

Winter:
Winter months are good for bass.

07/10/19 The water is warm as you probably know, ranging from the upper
eighties to the upper eighties and low ninites. Bass are being caught on
topwater lures, jerk baits and swimbaits. Plasitc worms are also working good in
the 6 to 12 depth range. Crappie are very slow. Bluegill and sunfish can be
caught early and late on popping bugs. Stripped bass are being caught on
large top water lures if you find them schooling.

Largemouth and smallmouth bass are taking plastic worms, deep diving crankbaits, and
jig with trailers. Crappie is slow. Bluegill and sunfish popping bugs, jigs/trailers, White
bass are taking swimbaits, and small crankbaits. Fish early and late in the day for the
best results.
