08/25/19 Fishing Report for Bankhead Lake: (See Fishing Report Archive at bottom of
page) Bass are taking top water lures early mornings and near dark. Flipping Jigs with trailers
under heavy cover will also get them. Buzz baits work early and late as well. Deep diving
crankbaits work in deep water. Bluegill and sunfish are taking top water poppers early and
late. Stripers are taking large shallow running crankbaits.

Description of the Lake: Bankhead lake is a 9,000-acre fishing lake located 20 miles west
of Birmingham, Alabama. Bankhead lake offers a large range of fish species to try yout hand
at. With over 400 miles of shoreline, mostly being brushy banks with boat docks scattered
around, there is plently of cover for feeding fish to persue baitfish. Large stripers and hybrid
striped bass roam in the deep water during summer and winter, then going up river into the
shallows for spring and fall months. Bankhead also holds nice populatiosn of crappie, bass,
catfish, bluegill, and sunfish. Rainbow trout are stocked annually, holding a nice population
for those trout anglers. Bass are the prime pick of this lake, with many bass tournaments
being located here each year. Numerous boat ramps and public/user fee areas are avaliable
to acess the waters.

02/21/19 Bass are the main species that are pursued during the winter. They
are generally found in the deeper water of creek channels, along steep bluffs,
and banks. Crappie can be caught but you need to fish deep flats and creek
channels.
