Lots of redfish are being caught in marshes and grass flats, as well as the inlets from
the gulf. We are getting some great reports.
Description of the Inshore waters:
The Mississippi River Delta is located from near the edge of the Continental Shelf in
the Gulf of Mexico up to an area near Venice, Louisana. It is approximately 521,000
acres of land and estuarine water areas. There's a huge, abundance of coastal
marshes and shallow grass flats. Although many species of fish inhibit the waters, it
is the redfish that's the main attraction. It includes East and West Bays and Pass A
Loutre State Wildlife Management Area.
Redfish, Sheepshead, Bonita, Black Drum, Tripletail, Jack Crevelle, Spanish
Mackerel, Bluefish, and Flounder, Speckled trout, King Mackerel, Cobia, Pompano,
Bluefish, Ladyfish, White Trout, Shark and Tarpon.
The fishing season is year-round.
There are several species of fish that migrate along the beaches that are great
for fly fishers – cobia, spanish mackerel and pompano will be in the area. White
Trout, redfish and Tripletail are also caught in the Spring.
King Mackerel, Spanish Mackerel, Pompano, and Jack Crevelle are species normally
caught during the summer.
Many species of fish can be caught on the fly during the fall months including Black
Drum, Redfish, Sheepshead, Speckled Trout, Spanish Mackerel, Amberjack, and
Fishing for Black Drum, Redfish, Bluefish, Sheepshead, Speckled Trout, and
Flounder is good during the cold months of the year.
