Fly Fishing Report for Upper Florida Keys from Key Largo to
03/25/18 Fishing Report: (See Fishing Report Archive at bottom of page)
The Gulf side has tripletail and Cobia present and being caught. The north central area
of Florida bay has lots of trout being caught. Tarpon are in all the channels and being
caught on a regular basis. They feed on mullet and our mullet imitations will work and so
will our small brown crabs. There are tarpon and Jack crevelle around all the bridges.
Description of the Inshore waters:
The green and blue waters of the Florida Keys consist of a chain of islands that runs
about 150 miles south and west forming the upper, middle, and lower keys. The upper
keys run from Key Largo to Islamorada, and the waters in this area provide a habitat for
many types of fish. On the Gulf side there are shallow grass flats for miles, while on the
Atlantic side you can go a short distance offshore and be in deep water, due to the
many channels and water flowing back and forth from the Gulf to the Atlantic, water
temperatures change daily and keep fish active.

Fishing Report Archives:
12/31/18 Even though winter has arrived and cold fronts are moving through on
a regular basis, the fishing remains excellent. On the Gulf side the Spanish
Mackerel are biting as well as Trout, Snapper, Redfish, and Cobia. Then, if you
get tired of these, you can slip through one of the numerous channels to the
Atlantic side and fish for Yellowtail Snapper as they will be getting hotter in
January and February. Whatever you do, make sure you save some time to fish
the back country for Bonefish.
