Fly Fishing Gear, Tackle and Trout Flies - Antimony Creek Utah
Fly Line:
The ideal fly line size for Antimony Creek would probably be a 4 weight, floating fly line.
Some anglers would prefer something heavier for large nymphs, and streamers. A 6 weight
fly line would deliver most of the streamers and heavy nymphs better than the 5 weight.
Fly Rod:
You would want a fly rod to handle each of the above line sizes. The four weight rod would
be ideal at a length of nine feet. We think a medium fast to fast action would be best for this
one.The five and/or six weight rod should be a little stiffer to handle larger nymphs and
streamers. We would say it should be nine feet in length in a medium fast to fast action.
Fly Reel:
The reels for the 4, 5 or 6 weight lines should have good drags. They should be smooth
and adjust to fine increments.
Leaders:
You should be using at least a seven foot leader anywhere on Antimony Creek. There are
cases where you may want a 12 foot leader. The only exception would be when you are
fishing streamers. You may want a shorter leader in that case. Make sure you have leaders
in sizes ranging from 2X for streamers, up to 6X for small flies and midges.
Tippet:
You should also have plenty of extra tippet in sizes ranging from 2X to 6X.
Waders:
Waders are necessary. We prefer the breathable type but you may need neoprene waders
if you are fishing during the Winter.
Wading Boots:
Felt soles would be our choice. The new rubber soles may work well.
Landing Net:
A landing net would be optional.
Trout Flies:
Antimony Creek has a good population of aquatic insects. Stoneflies, caddisflies and
mayflies are plentiful. We recommend "Perfect Fly" trout flies. We have specific imitations
of every important insect that exist in the stream in each stage of its life that's applicable to
fishing. The wild brown trout can be very selective. If you haven't already done so, we hope
you will give them an opportunity to work for you.
