Fly Fishing Gear, Tackle and Flies for the Blue River, Wisconsin
Fly Line:
You would probably want a 4 or 5 weight fly line for your fly fishing on the Blue River. You
could get by using a 5 weight floating fly line for everything. Many anglers that fish heavy
nymphs and streamers would want a 6 weight fly line but it would not be absolutely
necessary.
Leaders:
Leaders should range in sizes from a 0X for streamers up to a 6X for midges and small dry
flies. Lengths ranging from seven and one-half feet up to 9 feet are suggested.
Tippets:
We suggest that you have extra tippet material in sizes ranging from 0X to 6X.
Fly Rods:
We think the fly rods should have a moderately fast to fast action and be nine feet in
length.
Fly Reels:
The fly reels for the 4, 5 and 6 weight fly lines should be light and have a good smooth
drags. We think disc drags are the best.
Waders:
Waders are not necessary required for fly fishing the Blue River but they do offer an
advantage in many situations.
Wading Boots:
We recommend felt soles for your wading boots.
Wading Staff:
A wading staff would be purely optional.
Landing Net:
A landing net is another optional item but one may come in very handy..
Trout Flies:
We recommend our "Perfect Flies". We think they are the best trout flies you can
purchase. They have been tested on the wild brown trout of the Blue River by our loyal
Wisconsin customers and have proven very effective there. If you haven't already tried
them, we certainly hope you will. You want be disappointed.
