Fly Fishing Guide, Gear, Tackle and Trout Flies for Blue Springs
Creek Missouri
Fly Line:
We think the ideal fly line size would be a 4 weight, floating fly line. If you fish heavy nymphs
and small streamers, you may prefer a 5 weight fly line to deliver the larger flies. A 6 weight
line would be best for fishing larger size streamers and large nymphs.
Fly Rod:
Depending on which fly line sizes you prefer, then you would want a fly rod for each line size
you chose. The four, five and six weight fly rods should be nine feet in length with a medium
fast to fast action.
Fly Reel:
The reels for the four, five and six weight fly rods should be as light as possible and have
decent drags.
Leaders:
You should probably be using at least a 7 and one half foot leader. Most of the time you
would probably want to use a 9 foot leader. I would suggest having them in sizes ranging
from 0X for streamers, up to 6X for small dry fly imitations in both the 7and one half and nine
foot lengths.
Tippet:
Make sure you have plenty of extra tippet material in sizes ranging from 0X to 6X.
Waders:
Waders would be necessary unless it is warm enough for you to wet wade. We recommend
the breathable type.
Wading Boots:
Felt soles are no longer legal in Missouri. We haven't tried the new rubber soles on this
stream yet, but we would think they would work just fine.
Landing Net:
A landing net would be a purely optional item.
Trout Flies:
Perfect Flies have proven to be very effective on the Blue Springs Creek in Missouri. We a
few customers who regularly use our flies on this stream. They closely imitate all the real
aquatic insects, crustaceans and terrestrials that are found on and in the stream. We have
specific imitations of all the insects in all stages of life. If you haven't already tried them, we
