Fly Fishing Gear and Trout Flies for the Musconetcong
River in New Jersey

Fly Line:
We suggest either a 4 or 5 weight floating fly line for most of the fly-fishing. You
may want to use a 6 weight line for heavy nymphs and streamers.

Fly Rod:
You would want a fly rod to handle each of the above line sizes. The four, five
and six weight rods should be nine feet in length. A moderately fast to fast
action would be best.

Fly Reel:
The reels for the four, five or six weight rods should have good drags. You don't
want to hang a large Musconetcong River trout and loose it because of a poor
drag. It should be smoothand adjust to fine increments.

Leaders:
You should probably be using at least a 7 and 1/2 foot leader anywhere you
fish. 12 foot lengths might come in handy in some cases such as Trico hatches.
You should have them in sizes ranging from 0X for streamers, up to 6X for small
midge imitations.

Tippet:
Be sure to carry extra tippet material matching your leader sizes ranging from 0X
to 6X.

Waders:
I would definitely suggest waders because there are few places you can fish
without them and be very successful.

Wading Boots:
Felt soles would be our choice.

Flies:
