Fly Fishing Gear, Tackle and Trout Flies - Oatka Creek New York

Fly Line:
The fly line we recommend for fly fishing Oatka Creek is a 4 or 5 weight floating line. For
nymphs and streamers we prefer a 6 weight fly line.

Fly Rod:
The fly rod should be a 4, 5 or 6 weight, respective to the line size, in a medium to medium fast
action. We prefer a length of 9 feet.  .

Leader:
Leader for trout should be tapered and range from seven and a half to twelve feet long. They
should range from a 0X up to a 6X size.

Tippet:
You want to carry plenty of extra tippet material ranging in sizes from 0X up to 6X.

Waders:
Waders are necessary for fly fishing Oatka Creek. It's 50 feet wide in places. We prefer the
breathable type.

Wading Boots:
Wading boots can currently have either felt or rubber soles.

Landing Net:
A landing net is purely optional but recommended. There's some large brown trout in this
stream. .

Flies:
