Fly Fishing Gear, Tackle and Trout Flies for Putah Creek California

Fly Line:
We recommend either a 4, 5 or 6 weight floating fly line for fly fishing Putah Creek. The 6
weight line is recommended for nymph and streamers. There could be situations where you
need a sinking tip or sinking fly line, especially when your fishing during the Winter.

Fly Rod:
We think the 4, 5 and 6 weight fly rods should be 9 feet in length with a medium fast to fast
action.

Fly Reel:
The fly reels used should be for either the 4, 5 or 6 weight lines should have good drags.
We prefer disc drags but there are other types that will work as well.

Leaders:
Leaders should be a size 0X to 6X and range from 7 1/2 to 12 feet in length. Most leaders
should be 4X, 5X or 6X in a 9 foot length.

Tippet:
You should have spare tippet in 0X to 6X.

Waders:
Waders are necessary. We recommend the breathable type. If you fish during the cold
season, you may want to use neoprene waders.

Wading Boots:
Wading boots are best if they are felt but regulations may change on this.

Landing Net:
A landing net is strictly optional but we do recommend using one.

Trout Flies:
