Fly Fishing Gear and Trout Flies for Silver Creek Idaho
Most all of the flies you will need to use on Silver Creek are small. You may want to throw a
medium size streamer occasionally, but that would be about the only exception we can
think of. The trout are not small. There are some huge ones in the stream, so you don't
want to go too light with your tackle.
You can use fly lines ranging from a four weight floating line to a six weight.,Most anglers
prefer to use a 6 weight fly line for their streamer and nymph fishing, but it wouldn't be
Your leaders should range in sizes from a 0X for streamers up to a 6X for small dry flies.
You should carry them in lengths ranging from 9 feet up to 12 feet. There are many
situations where a long leader is required.
You should have plenty of extra tippet material ranging from 0X to 6X.
We recommend a 5 weight fly rod for most of the fishing on Silver Creek. It should be a
medium fast to fast action rod that's nine feet in length. We would prefer a nine foot length
because of the wind. Both the four and six weight rods, if you use them, should be
moderately fast to fast and in nine foot lengths.
The fly reels you use for the 4, 5 or 6 weight lines should have very good drags. They
should be as light as possible and its drag should be adjustable in fine increments. This is
an advantage when you are fishing light tippets which you will be fishing often.
We recommend waders. You wouldn't have many options without them.
We recommend felt soles for your wading boots.
You may want to consider using a float tube. Several of the larger pools are just about
impossible to reach by wading (water is too deep) or from the bank. They would also give
you an opportunity to fish more water.
We think a landing net is a great idea for anyone wanting to make sure they land one of
Silver Creek's large trout. You would be quite brave (or maybe even a little dense) if you
choose to not use one.
We definitely recommend "Perfect Fly" trout flies. They are by far the best flies for Silver
Creek because they are the most realistic flies you can purchase. We have imitations of
every insect and other trout food that is present in the creek. If you
haven't done so already, we ask you to give them a try. We know you will not be
disappointed. In fact we guarantee them to the point that if you are not satisfied, you can
