Fly Fishing Gear, Tackle and Trout Flies - Toccoa River
Tailwater
Fly Line:
We recommend either a 5 or 6 weight floating fly line for fly fishing the Toccoa
River tailwater. You may want sinking tip lines of various weights for streamers
but a floating line works for most the fishing.
Fly Rod:
We recommend either a medium to medium-fast action that is 9 feet in length.
Fly Reel:
The fly reel used should be for either the 5 or 6 weight line should have a very
good drag. We prefer disc drags but there are other types that will work as well.
Leaders:
Leaders should be a size 0X to 6X and range from 7 1/2 to 9 feet in length.
Tippet:
You should have spare tippet in 0X to 6X. Some anglers prefer fluorocarbon
for nymphs but mono is fine.
Waders:
Waders are needed for fly fishing the Toccoa River Tailwater. We prefer the
breathable type.
Wading Boots:
Wading boots should either by felt soles or the new rubber soles if you prefer.
Landing Net:
A landing net is strictly optional but we do recommend using one.
Trout Flies:
Perfect Fly trout flies prove their benefit from coast to coast. They closely
imitate all the real aquatic insects, crustaceans that are in the Toccoa River
Tailwater. Our black flies come in all life cycles (you can't get anywhere else),
and our midge flies and streamer selection will provide you the best
opportunity to catch Toccoa River Tailwater trout. We have specific imitations
of all the mayflies, including Sulfurs, Hendricksons, Blue-winged Olives and
others as well as imitations of the Cinnamon Caddisflies, Little Sisters and
Spotted Sedges.
