Fly Fishing in Sarasota Bay – Florida

09/06/24 Fly Fishing Report: You should be able to catch speckled trout, jacks and ladyfish on flies. Use a sink tip fly line and fish over deep grass flats in Sarasota Bay.

Description: Sarasota Bay is a lagoon that is located off the central west coast of Florida. Though no significant single stream of freshwater enters the bay, it is generally treated as an estuary with three passes or inlets providing access from the Gulf of Mexico.

Tide: Sarasota

Weather: Sarasota, National Weather Service

Tips and Techniques: We recommend using floating fly lines and 12′ or longer leaders for shallow water. We recommend using sink tip lines with shorter leaders for fishing deeper water. Fish the Inter-coastal Waterway at night for snook. An intermediate sink tip fly line works good for this.
