The Florida Keys is a premiere saltwater fly fishing destination. Several different species of saltwater fish exist in the Keys at one time or another during the year. Some are resident species and some just pass through at various times. Some are beginning to migrate back to where they came from.
Fly Fishing Report: September 03, 2024 It is getting near the end of the summer season, but there are still a lot of tarpon around. They are easy to spot when they roll near the surface. The weather is finally settling down to high in the mid eighties rather than the nineties. Bonefish are being caught with good consistency. There are groups of Juvenile Tarpon, with some bigger fish mixed in with the right conditions. Bone fish are still being caught. They are more active on a tide change later in the day. There have been a few permit around but we would call catching them would have poor odds. There are plenty barracuda around.
