The Black Dancer is one of the long-horned caddisflies that are found in slower moving water in western trout streams. It is also found in lakes. It usually hatches when other hatches are few and far between. In the Northwest this is usually late July and August. Hatches occur in the mornings. One thing that makes imitations of this caddisfly effective is that the adults stay on the surface of the water for a relatively long time. This allows ample opportunity for the trout to eat them. The females deposit their eggs in the evenings.
