The Short-Horned Sedge is a rather small caddisfly that can hatch in huge quantities in trout streams from the Eastern to the Western United States. They are also sometimes called “Tiny Black Caddsi”. They are Glossosoma species. Most of the species hatch in the mornings for just about the entire season. At times the hatches will rival any caddisfly and the trout will feed on them with ease. The females deposit their eggs in the late afternoon and evenings. Even though it’s a small insect, the Short-Horned Sedge can be an important caddisfly to imitate.
