The Golden Drake is a very beautiful mayfly that is found in the Midwest and East. It prefers slower moving water that is almost, but not quite, too warm for trout. The nymphs are burrowers that stay hidden most of the time. This mayfly starts to emerge just before dark and continues into the night. It’s spinners begin to fall just before dark and continue into the night. This is an excellent hatch for the angler that likes to fish at night. Trout can also be taken late in the afternoons especially on cloudy, overcast days.
