Perfect Fly Hand Tied Tapered Mono Leaders for Saltwater Fish with Perfection Loop
While factory pre-formed tapered leaders work great for some types of freshwater fishing, they don’t compare in any respect to quality hand tied leaders for the saltwater species of fish.
Being able to present your “Perfect Fly” saltwater flies properly requires a good tapered leader, irregardless of the type of fly you are fishing. The leader should be soft enough to have the proper amount of elasticity in order to absorb the shock from the sudden surge of a fish, yet be hard enough to be as resistant to abrasion from the tough saltwater environment. You cannot land large fish on frayed leader material or with tangles and wind knots in your leader or tippet.
You should be able to deliver your flies where you want them to land. This often makes the difference in catching fish or not catching fish. Our Perfect Fly leaders are designed to enable the angler to deliver the fly precisely where you want it to go. They provide a strong link between the fly line and the fly. They transfer energy from the fly line to the fly in a predictable manner.
The Perfect Fly hand tied tapered Saltwater mono leaders have a large diameter butt section that helps make a smooth transition from the fly line to the leader. The midsection gradually tapers down in steps to the terminal tippet part of the leader that’s based on the particular strength you choose for the species of fish your pursuing and the fishing conditions. These leaders transfer energy from the fly line to the tippet smoothly and turn over all types of saltwater flies.
These are all purpose saltwater leaders that can be used fly fishing for cobia, jack crevalle, ladyfish, speckled trout, sea trout, redfish, baby tarpon, bonita, small tuna, pompano, small (chicken) dolphin, blue runners, and many other species.
We use Mason Hard Nylon leader material in all five sections of the leaders. The butt section begins with a perfection loop and is half the length of the leader, or 5 foot long and the tippet is 2 feet long. Three sections step down from the butt to the tippet making a total of five sections. Sections are joined using blood knots. As your line unrolls towards the target and arrives at the leader you need enough flexible weight to make the leader continue to unroll. Using heavy mono that’s half the length of the leader enough energy is retained to turn the flies over well.
