This is a very popular Atlantic Salmon pattern that is fished the world over. It was first tied
in 1885 as a variation of the old Doctor fly pattern. It’s a true classic salmon fly that’s
effective anywhere there are Atlantic Salmon. Its hair wing moves well in the water and it’s
colors are enticing.
The fly origin was Scotland. Its silver tinsel body and mixture of bright colors make it a
very attractive fly. It works well in both clear and dingy water. Red color is viewed by fish
as brown when it is a as much as three feet deep in the water. That helps its appeal in
clear water and the bright yellow helps its appeal in dingy water.
The Silver Doctor has proven to catch Atlantic Salmon in rivers from the Mid-Atlantic
region of the United States to Maine.
