Fly Fishing The Wenatchee River in Washington
The Wenatchee River originates from Lake Wenatchee and flows for about 55 miles into the Columbia River at the town of Wenatchee. Although it was regarded as one of the best fly fishing steelhead streams in the state for years, it was closed for more than a decade.  It reopened in 2007 as an Endangered Species Act management fishery. Fly Fishing the Wenatchee River is now a top choice for steelhead..

The regulations for fly fishing the Wenatchee River is a little different from most streams. All wild fish are to be released alive and all hatchery steelhead must be retained.

The river will remain closed up until the ratio of wild fish to stocked fish is properly balanced and the run is relatively adequate to support fishing. The fishing has been very good now for the past few years and it is now considered one of Washington’s best steelhead streams by many anglers..

The Wenatchee is open from Leavenworth down to the confluence of the Columbia River at the town of Wenatchee. Fly fishing the Wenatchee River is a real pleasure. It is usually clear and fairly easy to fish. It has some very scenic mountains in the background that makes it one of the most beautiful steelhead streams in the state of Washington. .

The first run of steelhead arrive around the first of August but better fishing usually begins about a month later than that. The fishing opportunities usually continue off and on until March.
