Fly Fishing The Lamprey River New Hampshire
The Lamprey River is one of New Hampshire’s most popular trout streams. That’s because its located near a heavily populated area and because it is heavily stocked by the state with brown, rainbow and brook trout. It also receives some Atlantic Salmon. The river starts in Deerfield and flows into Great Bay. It passes through heavily populated areas and farm land depending on the location.

This is one of the most pressured trout streams in the East but it usually remains good all season long thanks to the numbers of trout that are stocked in the relatively small stream. The upper reaches hold mostly rainbow and brook trout as is usually the best area of the river to fish. The lower section is larger pools but can still be waded in most places. It can also be fished from a canoe or small boat.

Access to is provided from Freeses Pond downstream to Raymond by state roads #107 and #27. The most popular places to fish the Lamprey River are located in Raymond. Fly fishing the Lamprey River in its lower section isn’t productive for trout. The water is better
suited for warm water species.

There are some holdover trout in the upper section of the stream but the great majority will be recently stocked trout. They can be easily caught on most generic and attractor fly patterns.

The upper section is easy to wade and since it is the most popular area, it isn’t unusual to see more than one angler fishing in the same area of the stream.
